The Night Shift – Giving Back to the NHS
Over the past months we’ve seen tremendous acts of generosity and heroism across the UK as the nation pulls together to fight the Coronavirus. There are those fighting at the front line, in the NHS, and the rest of us doing all we can to support them. H.R. Owen’s very own Paul King, Service Manager, is preparing to do his part with a gruelling ‘Night Shift’; a fundraising cycle ride from 8pm to 6am non-stop.
Having ridden a bike for most of his life, with a number of races under his belt, Paul’s taking to two wheels in the hopes of raising £3,500 for NHS staff. He’ll be riding a static Wattbike in his garden from the time of the ‘Big Clap’ on Thursday May 28th through the night until 6am on Friday May 29th.
Paul said: “Unfortunately, I won’t be alone in having lost a very close friend to Coronavirus and I’d like to dedicate the ride to all those that have suffered as a result of the pandemic and those battling to stop it. Our NHS is doing an amazing job but it takes on another dimension when caring for patients throughout the night. That’s why I’m putting in my very own Night Shift for them. It’s nothing compared to what they’re currently doing, but it’s the best way I can show my appreciation, not just for now, but for all the great work the NHS does.
“Back in 2015, I had an awful cycling accident and shattered my pelvis. The NHS did an amazing job of healing me and rehabilitating me to the point where I was able to get back in the saddle which – at one stage – I didn’t think would ever be possible. It’s a reminder that the NHS is always there when we need it, especially at times like this.”
The ride will be covered live on a cycling app called Zwift and Paul invites anyone who would like to join him on the ride, to do so via the app. If you’d like to join H.R. Owen in helping Paul reach his target, and donating what you are able, you can here, and please do add a guess for how many miles you think he will cover in those gruelling 10 hours.
When Paul’s not cycling through the night, he’s overseeing Aftersales operations at H.R. Owen Lamborghini in London, as well as working with Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Bugatti and Maserati.
